Absences
If your child is absent from school, please send a note/ email of explanation to excuse the absence. All homework and class assignments must be made up. It is important that your child have very limited absences. We do a lot of activities in class that are difficult to make-up. State law limits the amount of absences children can have.
Attendance
There is a check in clipboard near the front door for children to show that they are at school.
Birthdays
We welcome birthday treats to celebrate your child’s special day. There are 24 children in our class. Children with the same birthday will celebrate birthdays on different days. When a birthday falls on the weekend, please have treats on the following Monday. Also, email a day or two before the treats to help remind me of the event.

If you would like to meet with me, then please send a note with your child or email me. The best times to meet with me are during my planning period (9:25-10:30 am) or after school.
Dismissal Procedures
From 3:15-3:30 pm, I watch children as they wait for their rides home at the side of the building (kindergarten wing). Students should go home based on the pick-up routine. If that should change, please send a note or email with the details. Your child and I should work together to make sure they come home safely. I ask that each child say goodbye and show me the person picking them up. If their ride has not arrived, students are sent to the office.
Friday Reader
We have scheduled parent readers on Fridays at 2:45-3:00 pm. Please bring books to share with the class.

Hallways
Children must practice H.A.L.L while in the hallway. That stands for hands behind the back, all eyes forward, lips sealed, and low speed. There is a student helper who leads the line, ends the line, and turns off the lights.
Helpers/ Jobs
Each student has a job that includes pet monitor, paper passer, librarian, etc.
Homework Binder
Your child will bring a binder and planner home everyday. It can contain completed class work, notes from the teacher, etc. Please help your child remember to bring his/ her binder back to school daily.
KPAW
Your child may participate in KPAW, the school's morning announcements. Your child may lead the pledges. There is a schedule when our class will participate. There is an opportunity in the fall and in the spring.
Lockers
Lockers should be free of open food or drinks. Locker decorating may occur after school with adult supervision.
Lunch
Lunch is from 12:10-12:40 pm. We sit at the tables in the back of the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, the children must remain seated, keep their body and food to themselves, keep the cafeteria clean, and use inside voices.
Quiet Signal
To get the children's attention or the noise level is getting too high, I say “Knock Knock,” “Ring Ring,” or “Give Me Five.” Children follow with the sign and say “Who’s there?” or “Hello?” Everyone’s hand should be raised with their palm facing me actively listening.
Recess
The children have recess before lunch at 12:40-1:00 pm.
Restroom and Drinking Fountain
Children have opportunities to go to the restroom independently. Only one girl and one boy may go at a time. They will grab a restroom pass to show that someone has gone.

Seating
The class is organized by tables in colors. The colors are found on the table.
Spirit Day
Fridays are Spirit Day. Children are encouraged to wear their UP shirts. Classes are often recognized for 100% spirit.
Tardies
The tardy bell rings at 8:00 AM. It is important that your child arrives to school on time and prepared. Tardiness causes disruptions in the classroom and your child can miss out in important activities. If your child arrives after 8:00, he/ she will need to get a tardy slip from the office.
Thursday Folder
School fliers go home each Thursday. There may be paperwork that needs to be returned to school. Remind your child to place the paperwork in the blue basket by the door. The Thursday folder should be returned in the yellow basket.

- Create a "working" Classroom Constitution that governs the classroom and supports school rules, policies, and procedures.
- Develop a maximum of six positively stated rules or Classroom Standards.
- Help edit and revise the final draft of the Classroom Constitution.
